What’s Immersed Playing: Summer Edition

Although the Immersed staff spends a lot of time making video games, we love playing them, too! Most of our inspirations and aspirations come from our own experiences with video games. So, here are some of the games that our team members have been playing in their free time this summer!

Veronica Hernandez, Junior UX Designer

Q: What game have you been playing recently?
I’ve been playing SpeedRunners on PC.

Q: What do you like and/or dislike about this game?
The game has the same intense item usage and racing adrenaline as Mario Kart, but it’s even more fun because you have have a grappling hook. I love how easily they let you edit your controls and I enjoy unlocking new maps and characters. The best part is bonding with friends over the wild in-game antics and friendly rivalry.

Q: Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
I think this is a fun and light-hearted game to play with friends after you’ve gotten bored of Smash, the Mario Franchise and MOBAs. It’s also good if you are not looking to invest a lot of time in long rounds or narratives.

Q: What game have you been playing recently?
Dark Souls on the PC.

Q: What do you like and/or dislike about this game?
The world of Dark Souls is incredibly immersive and beautiful while also being extremely bleak and challenging. These aspects, respectively, are the reasons I both enjoy and am frustrated by this game. The depth and breadth of the world make it very fun to explore and the story is compelling, but the darkness of the story and the sheer difficulty make it depressing and onerous at times. However, this makes overcoming the challenges that much more rewarding since there are no “cheap” challenges; it’s a skill-based type of difficulty that has little to do with luck.

Q: Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
I would recommend Dark Souls to anyone who loves exploration, RPGs, and a good challenge.

Adam Kania, Animator

Q: What game have you been playing recently?
Ori and the Blind Forest, Xbox One.

Q: What do you like and/or dislike about this game?
I really love the art-style and the beautiful flow the music has. It’s like a painting that constantly moves and challenges you on an appropriate level. I think it’s perfect, I only dislike that there’s not even more!

Q: Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
I would heavily recommend it for it’s amazing free-flowing platforming gameplay and it’s incredible art-style.

Q: What game have you been playing recently?
Recently, I have been playing Ark Survival Evolved on my personal gaming computer.

Ark

Q: What do you like and/or dislike about this game?
What I like about the game is the overall concept with trying to survive with dinosaurs as it incorporates a lot of strategy and it’s tons of fun! I don’t dislike anything in particular but if I had to choose is that it’s still fairly new so it can be buggy ever so slightly, but they are working hard on adding things to make the game better!

Q: Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend this game to someone! It’s a lot of fun to play with your friends and if you’re a dinosaur lover, it’s even better! If you love strategy, action, adventure, and animals, this game is for you!

Sam Sewall, Technical Co-founder & Lead Programmer

Q: What have you been playing Recently
Borderlands 2 on PC.

Borderlands

Q: What do you like and/or dislike about this game?
The incredible storytelling, characterization, and extremely humorous dialogue!

Q: Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
Hell yeah! Ashley Birch as a voice actress is reason enough to play this game! All of the character feel alive and give the story depth and personality, the gameplay is fun and engaging, and the missions are challenging but fun!

Playing video games has had a big role on a lot of our team members’ lives, and we think that games matter to many people for many reasons. So, we’d like to hear from you, too: what games are you playing?
